Post date: Sep 11, 2017 1:08:21 AM
Good Evening Heaton Families,
This is Jayme Cardinal, Principal at Heaton calling with announcements for the week of September 11th through September 15th .
First, last week we were notified that Heaton was rated by the Colorado Department of Education a “Performance” School. Schools are given one of four ratings (Performance, Improvement, Priority Improvement, and Turnaround) based on the yearly results of the PARCC/CMAS scores in Reading, Math, and Science. Performance is the highest rating a school can receive. We improved from Improvement to Performance! Please visit http://www.cde.state.co.us/schoolview/coloradogrowthmodel for more information about Heaton and how we compare to other schools in the state. Congratulations to our students, staff and Heaton community. Thanks to all the parents and families who shared our Performance News flyer on FB. We got word out to over 5000 people! ☺
September is National Attendance Awareness Month. We gave away prizes on Friday to students who had been in full attendance all week. We will continue to do this for the month of September. As I mentioned last week, I will be reporting attendance percentages by grade each week. Attendance in school is critical. As I have reported before, students lose out on opportunities to learn when they are not in school. Our community advocate, counselors, and administrative team will be working with families this year to ensure students are in school. Please note that we take the Colorado Attendance Compulsory Laws seriously. This past week, our overall average percentage was 93%. 6th grade was 93.4%, 7th grade was 93.6% and 8th grade was 92.3%.
8th Grade Parents—this next announcement is for you. We had a change in who will be the counselor for 8th grade this school year. Starting on Monday, Mrs. Cotter, will be the counselor for students in 8th grade whose last names begin A-L. Mrs. Cotter will also continue to be the 6th grade counselor. Mrs. Laydon will be the counselor for 8th grade students whose last names begin M-Z. She will continue to also be the 7th grade counselor. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Our “Guadalupe Rodriguez Care and Share Food Pantry” will be open again this Friday from 1-2:15PM. All families are welcome. We will have fresh fruits/vegetables on the 3rd Friday of every month.
Good luck to our Volleyball, Football, Soccer and Cross County Teams this week. You can find the dates and times of games on our web page calendar or through our APP, which is connected to our google calendar.
