Weekly Announcement

Clearing for fall sports will take place this week, Aug 8-12 from 9am-3pm in the back office with Ms. Wallace. Students will need a current physical, the parent and student agreements and the emergency card as well as the $45 sports fee.

Tryouts/practice for softball and volleyball will start Aug 22nd at 4:00. Cross country will start on the 22nd at 7:30 am in the back gym.

Softball will have a preseason camp Aug 17 & 18th from 8-10 am.

Volleyball will have a preseason camp Aug15-18th from 8-11 am.

Weekly Call Script- October 16 to 20

Good Evening Heaton Families,

This is Jayme Cardinal, Principal at Heaton calling with announcements for the week of October 16 through October 20th.  

  1. This past week, our overall average percentage attendance was 91%.   6th grade was 92%, 7th grade was 90% and 8th grade was 90%.  This is about the time of year that we start to see a decline in student attendance which is something worth noting.   As a reminder, students cannot learn when they are not in school.  

  2. This week, we are completing District Interim testing in ELA and Math.   We use these assessments to make adjustments to our instruction for all students.   

  3. The 1st quarter ends this Friday.  Report cards will go home after Fall Break.  Fall Break is coming up.   There is no school from October 23 through October 27.   School will resume on October 30th.   

  4. Our band and choir students have concerts this week.  The 7th, 8th and Jazz Bands will have a concert on Tuesday, October 17, at 7PM at EAST High School Auditorium.    The choirs have their performance on Wednesday, October 18, at 7PM at Heaton Middle School Auditorium.     

  5. Clearing for Boys basketball will take place this week in the school office from 9AM to 3PM with Ms. Vickie.  Clearing means students must have a current physical on file, parent-student agreement form, green emergency cards and $45 fee.   Tryouts will be held next week October 23rd, 24th , and 25th from 5-6:30PM in our gym.   If you have any questions about clearing, please contact Mr. Crowell, our Athletic Director.  549-7427

  6. This is the last Friday that Student Council will be collecting socks for Socktober.  Students who donate new socks will be entered into a drawing for multiple prizes we are giving away including gift cards and spirit t-shirts.

  7. Our next PTO meeting is Tuesday, October 17th at 4PM.   If you are interested in helping, please come.  

  8. Our “Guadalupe Rodriguez Care and Share Food Pantry” will be open again this Friday from 1-2:15PM.   Please stop by and take advantage of this opportunity.  All families are welcome.  

  9. Good Evening Heaton Families,

This is Jayme Cardinal, Principal at Heaton calling with announcements for the week of September 18th through September 22nd.  

  1. This past week, our overall average percentage was 91%.   6th grade was 94%, 7th grade was 89% and 8th grade was 91%.   September is National Attendance Awareness Month.  We continue to give away prizes on Friday to students who have been in full attendance all week.  We will continue to do this for the month of September.   As I mentioned last week, I will be reporting attendance percentages by grade each week.   Attendance in school is critical.  As I have reported before, students lose out on opportunities to learn when they are not in school.   Our community advocate, counselors, and administrative team will be working with families this year to ensure students are in school.   Please note that we take the Colorado Attendance Compulsory Laws seriously.  

  2. This is the 5th week of school for the 1st nine week.   Normally, mid-term grade reports would go out this week, however due to the first two weeks of school having limited work and district testing, we will send home midterms next Monday, September 25th.    

  3. Our “Guadalupe Rodriguez Care and Share Food Pantry” will be open again this Friday from 1-2:15PM.   The pantry offers non perishable items and all families are welcome to utilize the pantry.  We will have fresh fruits/vegetables this week.  Please take advantage of this opportunity!  No appointment is necessary.  Just drop by from 1PM to 2:15 PM

  4. This Wednesday, students in 7th grade will be tested for Vision and Hearing.   Nurses will notify you if there is a concern about your child’s vision or hearing.   

  5. All students will also be taking the Colorado Healthy Kid Survey this week.   If you have any questions about the survey, please let me know.

Weekly Call Script- September 11- 15

Good Evening Heaton Families,

This is Jayme Cardinal, Principal at Heaton calling with announcements for the week of September 11th through September 15th  .  

  1. First, last week we were notified that Heaton was rated by the Colorado Department of Education a “Performance” School.   Schools are given one of four ratings (Performance, Improvement, Priority Improvement, and Turnaround) based on the yearly results of the PARCC/CMAS scores in Reading, Math, and Science.   Performance is the highest rating a school can receive.  We improved from Improvement to Performance!    Please visit http://www.cde.state.co.us/schoolview/coloradogrowthmodel for more information about Heaton and how we compare to other schools in the state.   Congratulations to our students, staff and Heaton community.   Thanks to all the parents and families who shared our Performance News flyer on FB.   We got word out to over 5000 people!

  3. 8th Grade Parents—this next announcement is for you.   We had a change in who will be the counselor for 8th grade this school year.   Starting on Monday, Mrs. Cotter, will be the counselor for students in 8th grade whose last names begin A-L.   Mrs. Cotter will also continue to be the 6th grade counselor.    Mrs. Laydon will be the counselor for 8th grade students whose last names begin M-Z.  She will continue to also be the 7th grade counselor.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Good Evening Heaton Families,

This is Jayme Cardinal, Principal at Heaton calling with announcements for the week of September 4th through September 8th.  

  1. There is no school on Monday, September 4th due to the Labor Day Holiday.

  2. Tuesday, from 4-6PM, Heaton will be hosting a Teacher Meet and Greet.   This is an opportunities for students and their families to visit and tour the school and meet teachers.   This year we will also have several outside agencies from Catholic Charities, Health Solution and SRDA to provide resources to families.   We will also have information about our Care and Share Food Pantry that will open this Friday, September 8th.  The pantry will be open on Fridays only from 1-2:15.   Fresh vegetables and fruits will be available on the third Friday of every month.   

  3. September is National Attendance Awareness Month.   Beginning next week, I will begin reporting our attendance numbers as I did all last year.   Attendance in school is critical.  As I have reported before, students lose out on opportunities to learn when they are not in school.   Our community advocate, counselors, and administrative team will be working with families this year to ensure students are in school.   Please note that we take the Colorado Attendance Compulsory Laws seriously.   Because it is National Attendance Awareness Month, we will be rewarding students through different drawings for prizes that we will do each week during the month of September.   

  4. We have concluded making schedule changes.   Thank you for your patience while worked to get students the right classes.   It is possible schedule changes could occur in the future based on need or administrative decision.   Parents will always be contacted if a schedule change occurs.

Weekly Announcements Script- August 28- September 1

Good Evening Heaton Families,

This is Jayme Cardinal, Principal at Heaton calling with announcements for the week of August 28- through September 1st.  

  1. We had an awesome beginning to the school year.  Parents, thank you for your support in sending students to school with the needed supplies and materials to start the school year.  It was IMPRESSIVE to see our students ready to start the year.   

  2. Planners finally showed up here on Friday.   We will be selling them all this week during the student’s first hours.   Because district guidelines don’t allow us to keep large sums of money in the building, we have very little change.   Please try and send the correct change if possible for the planners.  Planners are $5.  Students need them by this Friday.   

  3. We will be doing District Benchmark testing this week.   All students will test in Math and English.   7th graders will test in Social Studies and 8th grad will test in Science.  Testing will take place with Monday and Tuesday.    These test help us drive our instruction as we go throughout the school year.   

  4. I am very excited to announce that we were selected to have the Care and Share Food Pantry at Heaton this year.   Families can select from non-perishable items as well as fresh fruits and vegetables.   We are excited to be a resource to help families.   Any family can participate.  The pantry will be open beginning in September and we will send out the dates and times as soon as we have more information.  

  5. If you need assistance with uniforms,  please contact Jean Daniel,  our community advocates.  She will be available to help families.   Please call the office to set an appointment.   549-7422.

Weekly Announcements Call Script- August 21 to 25

Good Evening Heaton Families,

This is Jayme Cardinal, Principal at Heaton calling with announcements for the week of August 21 through August 25th

  1. Student schedules went live on Infinite Campus on Friday as we noted in our newsletter.   We will provide one copy of the student’s schedules on their first day of school.   If you are unable to access IC, students will be greeted on Tuesday and Wednesday with help to find their first hour classes.   While we know this is anxious time for 6th grade students especially, please know we will help students when they arrive.   Our Student Council Members and School Ambassadors will also be on hand to help.   

  2. 6th grade students ONLY will report to school on Tuesday , August 22 for the 6th grade Transition Day.  This will be a regular school day for 6th graders and busses will run.    No 7th or 8th grade should be at school this day.    ALL students will then report to school on Wednesday, August 23.   Please note that we let students into the building at 7:40AM.  Students are expected to be in the correct uniform from day one.  On Wednesday, students are expected to be in their dress for success uniforms.  As a reminder, khaki colored pants, cargo or berumda shorts are the only pants allowed.   Dress shirts can be white or black.  Dress code includes natural hair color only and clear-plugged facial piercings.   We will send out full dress code expectations following this announcement on Remind, our APP and on our web page.   

  3. Keeping distraction to the learning environment at a minimum is one of our goals.   Fidget spinner or cubes will not be allowed.   Please have your child keep those items or other items at home.   Thank you in advance for your help.

  5. Students will need to purchase a planner and a tie for the school year.  Ties are currently available and are $6.   Planners are $5 but have not arrived yet, but we anticipate them on Monday.   Because of the shipping delay, we will sell planners this week as students return to school.  We will do that during first hour.  All students need a planner.

This is Jayme Cardinal, Principal at Heaton calling with announcements for the week of August 14 through August 18.

  1.   2. Clearing for fall sports begin this week.  Clearing will take place from 9AM to 3PM.  Please adhere to those time.  Clearing requires a current physical, parent/student agreement form, emergency card and $45 fee.   Please clear with Ms. Vickie, the building secretary in the back office at Heaton.   Contact Mr. Crowell, our athletic director with any questions. Weekly Call Script May 29- June 2

Good Evening Heaton Families.  

This is Jayme Cardinal-Principal at Heaton.  I am calling with announcements for the week May 29 through June 2.  

 

1. There is no school on Monday, May 29th due to the Memorial Day holiday.  School resumes on Tuesday.
2. Tuesday, 8th grade students who qualified for the 8th grade field trip will be going to Royal Gorge in Canon City.   
3. Wednesday, 6th grade students who qualified for the 6th grade field trip will be going to the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.   
4. Yearbooks are on sale for $25.  Yearbooks will be given out on Tuesday, June 6th.   Yearbooks will be $35 on the last day.  Buy yours soon.   
5. 8th grade parents, there are quite of few events that are happening for 8th graders.   I will be sending out a separate call to you only with information about upcoming events for your child.   That call will got out on Monday.   
6. Friday, June 2, please join us for our End of Year Awards Assemblies.  6th grade will begin at 9AM, 7th Grade will begin at 10AM and 8thgrade will begin at 11AM.   We give out awards for 4.0, Honor Roll, Perfect attendance and because it is the end of year awards teachers will also be giving out awards.  
7. Fine Sheets will be coming this week.  Please ask your child to see their fine sheet.   We will be collecting fines June 5th and June 6th.   Fines are usually for things like lost books or locks.

Weekly Call Script- May 15 to May 19, 2017

Good Evening Heaton Families.  

This is Jayme Cardinal-Principal at Heaton.  I am calling with announcements for the week May 15 through May 19.  


  1. Our overall average for attendance was 89.7%.      Our 6th grade averaged 89% for the week, 7th grade was at 91%, while the 8th grade was at 88%.   

  2. Parents—There are many activities upcoming during the next three and half week of school.   I usually just give the week’s activities in the Sunday Call, however, you can always see upcoming events via our App or on our Webpage on the Google Calendar.  Please take a look at the upcoming events.  

  3. Tuesday, at 6PM we are hosting our AVID Celebration night.  If your child is in the AVID Elective or are going to be in AVID next school year, they will be recognized on Tuesday evening.   Please join us.  

  4. Last week, we meet with a group of students who are being invited to join our school’s chapter of National Junior Honor Society.   Parent-if your child qualified your child was given a letter that had all the information on it regarding the upcoming induction.   The induction ceremony for these students will be on Thursday, May 18, at 9AM in the auditorium.   

  5. Good Luck to our qualifying runners who will compete Monday, May 15 at Dutch Clark in the City/County Championship Meet begins at 4:30PM.  Good luck!!

  6. 8th Grade Parents:  The Continuum invitations went out.  Please ask your child to see the invitation.   We encourage all students to participate in the evening’s events.   The Continuum is June 5th beginning at 5:30PM at East High School.  Students will RSVP with either Ms. Reeves or Ms. Hoffman, our Student Council Representatives.   As a reminder, the dinner and dance portion of the evening are for students only.   RSVPs and money are due by May 26th.   The dinner and dance are back at Heaton that evening.

Sunday Call Script

Good Evening Heaton Families.  

This is Jayme Cardinal-Principal at Heaton.  I am calling with announcements for the week May 8 through May 12th.  


  1. Our overall average for attendance was 90.3%.      Our 6th grade averaged 89% for the week, 7th grade was at 92%, while the 8th grade was at 90%.   

  2. Midterm report cards were sent home with your student on Friday.  Please ask your child to see their midterm report card.  If you have any questions about your child’s grades, please contact your child’s teachers or you can also contact us in the school office.  

  3. This month we are challenging students to “Be Positive” as we head into the end of the school year.     Spirit Week this past week was the kickoff for this.     I wanted to send a thank you out to our students and parents who ensure their child comes to school each day focused on their academics and ensure students follow the Code of Conduct.   We appreciate your help and student’s cooperation to make our school operates orderly and without disruptions.   Our expectation and policies are in place to minimize distraction to the learning environment.   While we are close to this school year coming to a close, we still have 4 ½ more weeks of school.   Our expectations will not change as we continue to the end of the school year.   This includes our policies with phones, dress code, the fidget toys and other behaviors.   

  4. Congratulations to our JV and Varsity Girls and Boys tracks teams.  They are ALL City Champions!!!!   The qualifying runners will compete this Tuesday, May 9th at Dutch Clark in the City/County Championship Meet beginning at 4:30PM.  Good luck!!

  5. Congratulations also goes out to our Marching Band, Intermediate, Advanced and Jazz bands for their performances this week and weekend at Apple Blossom.   The Marching Band took 3rd!   Congratulations!!!   

  6. Good luck to our Soccer teams.  They have competition all this week as well as this weekend.
